Trademark Paralegal II

This is a position within the Trademark team at Gilead Sciences, reporting to the Trademark Paralegal Manager. The team consist of 4 Attorneys, and 4 Paralegals. This team is made up of high caliber, reputable and extremely hard-working IP professionals, all of whom play an integral role in the companys ability to continue providing therapies to medical areas of unmet needs worldwide.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Manage domestic and foreign prosecution for a large portfolio including new filings, responses to office actions, extension requests, renewals and recordation of assignments

Review and flag Watch Notices and make recommendations for further action; Conduct trademark database searches and common law searches, and prepare preliminary results for attorney review

Correspond with and instruct foreign trademark agents and docketing team; Prepare electronic filings with USPTO, including applications, extension requests, statements of use, renewals and drafts of routine office action responses for attorney review

Prepare electronic and paper filings with WIPO

Identify evidence of use, and collect and manage evidence and documents for prosecution matters

Assist with conflict matters, as needed, including collecting and managing evidence and documents for oppositions, cancellations and domain disputes

Prepare Powers of Attorney and manage legalizations, etc.

Experience & Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree with 4 years of relevant experience. 2 years of experience with a masters degree. At least 4-5 years of trademark experience, including U.S. and international trademark clearance searches, application preparation, prosecution, maintenance, and assignment recordables

Significant experience with trademark databases

Significant experience with trademark search platforms Thompson Compumark preferred

General computer proficiency with Windows applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Organized, detail-oriented, hard-working

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Ability to independently multi-task and take ownership of work in a fast-paced environment

Strong team player

Notary or willing to become one required

Paralegal certificate and/or college degree preferred

Working conditions

This is an in-office position with work-from-home hours as approved by Manager

Business travel is not required
