Please review the job details below. Maxar is currently seeking a motivated and skilled Sr. Manager of Composites Technology to join our team in Mountain View, CA. In this role, you will lead a team of highly skilled composite manufacturing engineers and production technicians, and their managers, who produce a wide variety of composite flight components, structures, and assemblies for all our spacecraft projects. The Composite Technology Department that you will oversee will be comprised of three sections, each with a section manager that will report to the department manager. The three groups within this department are a team of composite manufacturing engineers, as well as two composite production areas. The Department Manager of Composites Technology will report to the Structures Subsystem (SMS) Director. Essential Functions Develop Strategic and operational plans for all manufacturing activities within the composite technology group to produce and deliver composite components and assemblies within schedule needs, compliant to cost targets, and meeting quality requirements. Integrate financial management into your day-to-day operating system and support your managers and other leaders in composites to increase their financial acumen work as a team to execute on all financial objectives. Support the monthly financial cycle by determining processes for cost management, by creating and building tools that define labor forecasts with calendarization, which are tied to the group's deliverables. Manage cost accounts by performing statistical analysis of cost trends and forecasting projected costs. Define objectives that facilitate skill development and cross-training for skill depth and breadth, with the goal of building a high performing, flexible, and diverse team. Ensure that composite section managers have the capability, drive, and the tools needed to define accurate local staffing plans for their areas which meet the needs of all projects and which correlate well with projected labor cost spending within each program's budget constraints. Support department proposal efforts. Must be able to support and contribute to the generation and review of cost bids for proposals, using accurate and detailed cost models while noting areas with potential costscheduletechnical risks. Will be required to ensure indirect spending and capital plans are in line with annual budget, and accurately forecast critical needs in these areas. Work with purchasing and planning departments for raw material purchases oversee equipment maintenance plans to ensure equipment is kept in good working order ensure all facility resources support the needs of flight hardware production. Define and plan out the handoffs and deliverables the composites technology group needs from other subsystems and groups within MAXAR and demonstrate the ability to communicate with and influence persons outside of the group to remove roadblocks and advocate for the department needs for successful execution of each program. Identify initiatives, Internal Research and Development projects, etc. which will enhance Maxar's ability to win new awards (higher performance, lower cost, technological advantage, etc.). Push for implementation and provide continuing support for those projects that are underway. Uncover opportunities in current product life cycle, make specific recommendations and drive changes for improvements in products we can offer our customers to make MAXAR more competitive. Collaboration with Materials and Processes group to maintain awareness of composite materials industry trends and technology development, with an eye for use of new technologies and materials Maxar projects. Manages Complexity Making sense of complex, high quantity and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems Courage Stepping up to address difficult issues, saying what needs to be said Minimum Requirements Must or permanent resident BS degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering Industrial, Manufacturing or other engineering discipline. Four years of additional experience may be substituted for a degree. Minimum of 8 years of experience in aerospaceaircraft industry with technical competence in composite manufacturing andor composite mechanical design, assembly, and test. A master's degree will account for two years of experience. Knowledge of spacecraft structure components or assemblies, composite materials, toolingfixturing, instrumentation, data acquisition, mechanical testing is required. Preferred Qualifications Experience with technical aspects of composite production and design for manufacturing, able facilitate coordination and exchange feedback with component design team t environmental test engineers. Is a capable project manager who can provide leadership to the team of manufacturing engineers who execute project management for all the hardware in production. Preferred candidate has composite manufacturing experience, or experience in other manufacturing disciplines that produce flight hardware, managing a production facility. Preferred candidate has experience managing teams, managing other managers, or cost account management expertise.
