How will you make an impact?

The Specialty Chemical Manufacturing Team is responsible for producing many of the key chemical compounds used in oligo synthesis, PCR and sequencing including fluorescent dyes, amidites, polystyrene supports, linkers, NHS esters and functionalized nucleosides. We are seeking an energetic individual with strong communication, leadership, technical and operational skills to join our dynamic and fast paced team. This position will provide technical support to the Specialty Chemical Manufacturing work center and will be also be expected to work in the manufacturing lab. The scientist will support the generation and review of work orders/batch records, and technical summary documents to support the timelines of individual projects. The scientist will also support the investigation and documentation of any deviations in production. The scientist will support the implementation of new component systems, change parts, and other process related activities to support ongoing and new projects. This work may include process improvement activities, product transfer activities, and other activities that would be project driven. The scientist will provide mentoring and guidance to other scientist. The scientist will have to make decisions that will support production and support the goals of the project. The scientist will also help the production team in executing manufacturing protocols and performing in-process testing of products on HPLC, UV/Vis and NMR. The candidate will follow SOPs and work in compliance with safety, regulatory and quality guidelines.

  • Participate on project teams as member, leader, or liaison to facilitate the teams activities and achievement of goals.

  • Recognize potential process improvements, recommends associated actions, and develops and implements appropriate solutions.

  • Problem solving, fixing routine methods, interpreting unexpected results, expected to highlight solutions to problems.

  • Provide laboratory investigation of Quality Notifications/CAPAs

  • Use highly specialized equipment and instrumentation in manufacturing

  • Manufacture compounds per manufacturing batch record as needed.

  • Follow all EH&S safety requirements

  • Address and report problems in daily manufacturing and propose effective countermeasures

  • Periodically review and discuss your priorities with supervisor

  • Communicate effectively with production staff

  • Interact effectively in a cross functional setting

  • Critically review processes and provide input to supervisor

  • Proficient in manufacturing processes

  • Adhere to ISO 13485 guidelines and the Life Technologies quality policy

  • Meet minimum productivity standards

How will you get here?

Education

Requires a Master's degree or higher in Chemistry with an emphasis on Organic Synthesis. PhD preferred but not required based on consummate related experience.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of progressive scientific experience in Organic Chemistry

  • Direct experience with synthetic organic chemistry

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Ability to perform HPLC analysis, 1H/31P/13C NMR, and method development

  • Working knowledge of manufacturing environments

  • Demonstrated creativity in designing novel solutions to complex technical problems and expertise in development approaches as applicable

  • Ability to collaborate with coworkers to meet goals

  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to work effectively with others

  • Ability to prepare/present oral and written presentations

  • Outstanding attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Self-starter, mature, independent and dependable

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment under pressure, able to multi-task and is results-oriented

  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.

  • Requires discretion and independent judgment

  • Deviation writing and investigations

  • Familiarity working with standard software programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
