Job Summary:   
The Produce Manager will lead and develop a highly motivated team focused on serving guests with a primary emphasis on the overall Produce department and support the Fresh Store guest experience and team member engagement to consistently meet or exceed guest expectations. 
Purposefully drives knowledge and understanding of Produce department and local products through interaction and communication that inspires Produce department team members to educate and serve guests. 
The Produce Manager provides leadership, direction, and oversees all produce operations and staffing for the department. The Manager coordinates activities of team members in the produce department as well as assigns job tasks, scheduling, company policy & food safety compliance, training, merchandising, department planning and production.  Manages product quality standards, produce prep production, culling standards, merchandising and sales functions, and inventory optimization and pricing accuracy. The Manager trains and develops team members to enable their success and ability to advance in their careers.   
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:   
Provides our guests with a remarkable shopping experience by demonstrating, training, and holding team members accountable for excellent guest services  
Achieves department financials (sales, profit and loss, budgets) by implementing best practices and optimization strategies   
Directly leads department staff with a focus on accountability and achieving high level of business performance for the department  
Development of all department staff (annual goals/performance review, quarterly business reviews)  
Interview job applicants and evaluate work performance to recommend personnel actions (e.g. hiring, retention, promotion, transfer, dismissal) 
Implements department’s merchandising plan and providing innovative solutions, emphasizing “fresh, effectively utilizes resources to improve productivity and quality of the guest experience  
Oversees schematic implementation, stocking standards, item to tag integrity, back room organization, sign and price integrity  
Manages product rotation, spoils, shrink, and markdowns, and Iris accuracy of department inventory  
Ensures department’s overall cleanliness/conditions  
Manages department to ensure produce products are prepared according to company guidelines  
Trains department staff on department procedures, hands-on safety and food safety 
Orders product (utilizes order/inventory system, pre-orders, promotion/seasonal planning)   
Ensures produce/floral products are prepared for display according to company standards  
Performs other duties as assigned 
Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities): 
Product ordering, inventory control, produce operations, merchandising, sales techniques, and department management 
Learn and retain policies and procedures, make decisions, lead and instructs employees, recognize sale trends and indicators, work within and promote a team environment 
Excellent communication, interpersonal, leadership/team building and training skills   
Excellent guest service skills and suggestive selling ability   
Strong organization, administration (to include department financials ) and math skills  
Knowledge or understanding of:    
o Department operations and financials  
o Produce and floral products  
o Special produce needs that arise for seasons/holidays  
o Trends in cooking and recipes that effect demand  
o Department food safety and hazardous materials rules/regulations  
o Visual merchandising techniques  
o Use and care of professional produce tools and equipment   
o Employee and labor relations practices 
Education: High school diploma or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience; some college education is preferred  
Experience: Two years Produce Department experience  
Other: Available to work a variety of required retail hours 
Physical: Store environment: ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach, pull and lift objects; requires lifting up to 40 lbs.

Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Education: One year of college (or vocational school or equivalent knowledge gained through formal education, specialized training, or additional job experience)

Experience: Two years Produce Department experience – or - in current Center Store, Meat, or  Bakery Department Manager role

Other: Available to work a variety of required retail hours

Physical: Store environment: ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, stoop, use stairs, reach, pull and lift objects; requires lifting up to 40 lbs.
