Under the supervision of the Manager or designee, provides timely and efficient general transport of patients between nursing units and hospital departments. May assist the patient in transport for discharge. As applicable, assists technologist and other staff members in preparing patients for examinations and discharging patients. Monitors and provides for needs of patients during transport and/or waiting for services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists other staff members in moving patients on and off beds and examination tables to the appropriate transportation device. Uses a variety of patient supporting equipment according to nursing or physician instructions. Uses transportation devices (wheelchairs, gurneys) in accordance to established safety practices.
Ensures patients are properly attired and covered for warmth, modesty, and comfort during transportation. As applicable, transports patients using wheelchair, bed or gurney between hospital departments; and/or assists patients waiting adjacent to examination rooms to ensure their comfort and safety. Assists patients to dressing rooms, gives dressing instructions and releases patients per instructions.
Reports to manager, nurse, or technologist any noticeable changes in patient condition during transportation. Verifies patient identification by checking identification band and compares patient identification with name on exam request.
Performs other related duties as assigned: may include clerical functions for the transporter dispatch role and/or answering phones, assisting with reception and file room areas as needed.
Operates department computer system.
Orients and trains other employees.
Attends mandatory in-service courses.
High School Diploma/GED License, Certification, Registration Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
Must be able to pass basic computer literacy test.
Good verbal and written communication skills including legible handwriting.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to courteously interact with the public, health plan members and co-workers.
Presents self in a professional manner.
Must be willing to work in a Labor Management partnership environment.
