What Your Job Will Be Like The Communications and Networking Systems organization is seeking a highly motivated Network Engineer with a solid background in the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of complex network systems. This includes routers, switches, load balancers, network services, firewalls and cloud technologies. The selected candidate will practice self-leadership and be adaptable to a broad range of IT infrastructure projects. On any given day, you may be called on to: * Design, implement, and maintain a wide range of networking technologies * Develop installation, testing, and troubleshooting procedures * Work with customers to analyze, define, and document business requirements * Optimize network performance and troubleshoot systemic issues * Plan and coordinate the installation/configuration of network systems Qualifications We Require * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other relevant field plus five or more years of network experience; or equivalent experience * Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q level clearance Qualifications We Desire * Strong foundational understanding of common network communication protocols, such as TCP/IP, HTTPS, BGP, and IPsec * Excellent communicator with the ability to work effectively in diverse team environments to resolve operational issues * Solid understanding of IT infrastructure such as servers, operating systems, storage, and hybrid cloud * Hands-on experience designing, documenting, implementing, troubleshooting, and managing large-scale enterprise networks * Ability to interpret business requirements and lead projects to completion * Demonstrated experience working with Ansible or other automation technologies * Knowledge and experience with network virtualization, IPv6, SDN, zero trust, and cloud computing * Comfortable with a multi-vendor environment including Juniper, Palo Alto, Cisco, F5, and Arista * Possess software engineering skills and familiar with Python, Git, or other development tools * Familiarity with large campus outside plant cabling technologies and wide area network fiber * Active DOE Q and SCI security clearance About Our Team The Communication and Network Systems Department provides vital services for Sandia's California Laboratory.
