A Large Tech Company is seeking an exceptional Groom TD to join their continual pursuit of high-quality digital characters. This person will work collaboratively with a small team to develop state of the art hair and fur assets with a focus on procedural systems. The ideal candidate will flourish in a fast-paced, dynamic research environment while continually improving quality and diversity. You will contribute to generation of synthetic data used to develop software solutions which will enable the Company’s next generation products.

Responsibilities: 

  • Create production ready, polygonal models with photo-real textures, based on CAD geometry
  • These models will be used for ideation and visualization purposes (both still and animation) of all Company’s products
  • Create highly-detailed, fully-textured polygonal models in Maya, Cinema 4D, Modo, or 3D Max
  • Creation of 2D textures, UV unwrapping, and development of highly-detailed material
  • As a 3D modeler, the candidate will be an integral part of a team of 3D/CG artists working on a variety of product visualization across various media channels

Skills:

  • 5+ years of hair and fur grooming for VFX or games
  • Proficient in Maya and V-Ray
  • Knowledge of industry-standard grooming tools (e.g. Yeti, XGen)
  • Experience developing procedural, art-directable systems
  • Scripting experience in Python or similar
  • Experience integrating with character build systems
  • Familiarity with shaders and materials for hair and fur
  • Knowledge of offline and realtime approaches for rendering hair and fur
  • Ability to scale work to large numbers of diverse characters while maintaining quality
  • Experience debugging and tuning grooms in a production pipeline
  • Nimble and able to adapt to changing requirements
  • BA in Digital Media / BS in Computer Science / Equivalent industry experience
  • Digital doubles in a production environment
  • Hair simulation setup and tuning
  • Cloud rendering
  • Developing synthetic data content for machine learning, and computer vision
  • Self managed, self motivated, and able to learn new pipeline and procedures
  • Exposure to Agile development methodologies
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
