Description

The Phlebotomist is responsible for routine tasks in the laboratory including, phlebotomy, specimen preparation, EKG and clerical duties.

Facilitates and documents the flow of patient specimens in and out of the laboratory; completes patient clerical information; enter specimen collection information, and other forms of communication in the computer.

Performs venipuncture and capillary puncture to obtain specimens for Laboratory analysis.

Identifies, labels and transports specimens to designated areas. Enters patient data and test information into the computer.

Processes specimens for send outs to referral laboratories and other SHC-ValleyCare facilities; handles incoming reports. Assists in setting up cultures and other Microbiology support tasks. Must rotate every 3rd weekend with holiday rotations.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience Graduate of a certified program of American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) or comparable experience 

License/Certification: Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Current American Heart Association BLS Certification

Minimum experience: 2-3 years of Phlebotomy Technician experience
Preferred: Hospital experience
