The Associate Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, R&D/GPS will manage a team and be responsible for supporting several business functions within the R&D organization. This role will have responsibility of overseeing the Global Product Strategy organization by supporting the SVP of Global Product Strategy, as well as all late-stage Clinical Trials.


  • Work with internal stakeholders to create robust annual budgets and reforecasts

  • Identify key drivers and underlying causes of variances and provide recommendations to manage such variances to management

  • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize and eliminate spend to achieve budget/forecast targets and drive financial discipline

  • Provide finance support to stakeholders across development and global product strategy teams to build business cases to accurately value the global portfolio including strategic fit, costs, and timing

  • Support development of new tools, systems, processes to improve the visibility of the valuation of our R&D pipeline

  • Support annual budgeting processes to ensure they tie to the portfolio strategy

  • Participate in vendor identification, RFPs, vendor selection, budget, and contract negotiations for clinical trials

  • Manage the day-to-day activities of GPS/Clinical Trial contracts and finance processes

  • Manage GPS/Clinical Trial budgets and forecasts including monthly accruals

  • Participate in establishing departmental and cross-functional policies and procedures

  • Review teams journal entries

  • Provide bridge commentary for actuals to plan variances

  • Complete Quarter-end and Year-end deliverables, including YoY and QoQ analysis

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of regulatory issues pertinent to clinical development

  • Demonstrate ability to interact on an advanced level with procurement and stakeholders to provide oversight of vendor budgets and related contractual terms


  • A minimum of six years’ experience with strong financial planning and analysis, including experience working in the pharmaceuticals industry supporting R&D organizations and in-depth knowledge of the accounting practices required.  Prior experience with modeling and accruals preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to help shape and influence global strategies

  • Strong financial planning, and analytical skills, including superior financial modeling, Excel, and financial database systems skills/knowledge to evaluate a broad range of financial questions

  • Ability to challenge business assumptions and communicate complex business and finance data to generate decision making

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; ability to work with a diverse team and influence and drive change across functional and business boundaries and across different levels of the organization

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills

  • Excellent written and oral communications skills


Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration required; MBA and/or CPA preferred.
